As part of the city’s celebrations for the Games, Creative Dundee will be showcasing a special collection of locally sourced film productions.
Entitled #Screen2, the event will show over 30 films, from local people of all age ranges and backgrounds, on a 27 sqm screen to audiences in City Square between 7pm and 9pm tonight.
Gillian Easson of Creative Dundee said: "We're delighted with the quality and the range of submissions for Screen in the Square, which have come from people and organisations across Dundee and beyond.
"Dundee has such a rich creative scene, from animation, film, music, dance, to poetry and much more; we wanted to show that off, so we're taking over the big screen for one evening only."
Among some of the talent due to be showcased tonight is the work of The Hazey Janes, DCA’s Discovery Film School and Flyboy Creative, a local production company based in the city.
They entered two of their most recent music video collaborations - AMWWF ‘Boo Hoo’ and The Jagged Violet’s ‘Thoughts of You’.
John Fairfield, managing director of Flyboy Creative, said: "We are extremely humbled to be part of such a fantastic event in the city.
"Over the past few years the film industry talent in Dundee has really been unearthed and there are exciting things popping up all over the place.
"I personally feel very excited to be in Dundee just now – it’s a great time for opportunity and recognition.
"I'm inspired by fellow Dundonians and the city itself pretty much every day. We’ve been specialising in music videos over the past 24 months and I can’t wait to see two of our productions being showcased alongside the other great film works of the city."
Other artists and groups who will have their work shown on the big screen include the Duncan of Jordanstone Digital Interaction Design Team, Slava Lawson, Nilupul Foundation, Jasmine Holt, Zoe Pepper, Dundee Waterfront, Youth Action Group McManus, St Kilda Mailboat, Abertay University, Foxhound Photography and Nomas Projects.
